Gaps between rich and poor continue to grow, both within and between countries, attributed by some to the effects of globalisation . The poorest countries have become even more marginalised . Over 1.1 billion people 20 percent of the worlds population, live in absolute poverty, on the equivalent of less than one dollar a day Twenty percent of the worlds people continue to consume eighty per cent of its resources.
