Gaps between rich and poor continue to grow, both within and between countries, attributed by some to the effects of globalisation…. The poorest countries have become even more marginalised…. Over 1.1 billion people – 20 percent of the worlds population, live in absolute poverty, on the equivalent of less than one dollar a day…Twenty percent of the worlds people continue to consume eighty per cent of its resources.
