FOREST FISH FORDS

Traditional flat concrete fords present a difficulty for fish passage, as fish have trouble in negotiating thin laminar flows. The design (see the attached Figure) tries to "pond" low-flow water on the ford and direct the resulting flow through one or two outlet points, thus providing fish passing up or down stream with some depth of water. It should be used  wherever:

(a) fish passage needs to be catered for during low flows, and
(b) a concrete ford needs to be built.
